It is an upright growing variety with deeply cut palm shaped deep purple leaves. These are eye-catching throughout the year but in autumn they turn a brilliant red to add wonderful colors to your garden. These plants work brilliantly in an urban garden where they might be protected from scorching winds. Plant with ferns, hostas or agapanthus for a great look.

Commonly known as the white birch, this is one of the most loved Irish trees for landscaping and gardening. Seen commonly throughout our landscape Betula pendula alba is an elegant medium sized tree. It is used commonly due to its brilliant white bark which becomes more pronounced and more fissured with age. Its slender light branches gently weep down from the crown and in particular when covered in their distinctive catkins. Plant as a specimen, in groves, in a mixed woodland or in front of a dark hedge or wall for dramatic effect.

Also know as redtip or the Christmas berry Photina x fraseri Red Robin is an evergreen shrub of the highest caliber. It is most popular for its vibrant red young foliage which can create a stunning effect [articularly when planted as a hedge. These young red leaves will turn green as the season progresses, however regular judicious pruning will ensure a continuous bright red display. In addition to its beautiful foliage, it displays masses of white flowers in earl summer when left unpruned.

This plant makes an excellent colourful hedge but is equally as impressive when planted as a shrub in a border, a topiary specimen or in a planter.

Miscanthus sinensis Zebrinus is a tall erect growing grass with beautiful arching leaves. It is noted for its laterally stripped variegation which sees cream bands traversing green leaves.

This tuft forming plant will grow to 1.5-1.75m in height and will form a clump up to 0.75m across. It is noted for its erect pinky red flowers carried on tall erect stems above the foliage which later turn a silvery white as autumn progresses. This is a very typically architectural plant and is at its best when planted in drifts and groups. An outstanding selection.

Alternatively it makes a wonderful companion plant in a planter as a contrast to more free flowering species.

A garden favorite for good reason, the creeping blue blossom botanically known as Ceanothus thrysiflorus repens is an evergreen vigorous creeping Ceanothus that bears masses of lilac blue flowers in early summer and again in mid summer.
Planted in a border it will not exceed a height of 1m however it will spread to cover a 2m area. If planted against a wall it will reach a greater height. A consistently superior performer in the landscape and perfectly suited to Irish conditions.
