Commonly known as the white birch, this is one of the most loved Irish trees for landscaping and gardening. Seen commonly throughout our landscape Betula pendula alba is an elegant medium sized tree. It is used commonly due to its brilliant white bark which becomes more pronounced and more fissured with age. Its slender light branches gently weep down from the crown and in particular when covered in their distinctive catkins. Plant as a specimen, in groves, in a mixed woodland or in front of a dark hedge or wall for dramatic effect.

Also know as the Tulip tree due to its distinctly shaped leaves, Liriodendron tulipifera is a deciduous tree that exhibits wonderful butter-yellow autumn foliage. Its flowers are carried in may-June and are yellow-green in colour with orange bands at the base of the petals. This makes a wonderful specimen tree and can be a real focal point in any medium to large garden.

Acer platanoides Crimson King is one of our best selling trees at Woodstock Trees and Shrubs. It is unique in its ability to hold its deep crimson color throughout the season. A medium sized tree is perfect for most gardens as it will not grow as large as many other trees. In addition it can be regularly pruned to keep size in check or if a reduction in crown is required it can be pollarded easily. The upright hornbeam is one of the most architectural trees growing in Ireland today. It has an incredibly upright growing habit producing a tree with an upright cone effect. When clipped regularly a very tight cone effect can be created. The autumn foliage of this tree is a buttery yellow and impresses particularly well in an autumn planting containing maples, birch and oak. Also know as redtip or the Christmas berry Photina x fraseri Red Robin is an evergreen shrub of the highest caliber. It is most popular for its vibrant red young foliage which can create a stunning effect [articularly when planted as a hedge. These young red leaves will turn green as the season progresses, however regular judicious pruning will ensure a continuous bright red display. In addition to its beautiful foliage, it displays masses of white flowers in earl summer when left unpruned.

Miscanthus sinensis Zebrinus is a tall erect growing grass with beautiful arching leaves. It is noted for its laterally stripped variegation which sees cream bands traversing green leaves.

This tuft forming plant will grow to 1.5-1.75m in height and will form a clump up to 0.75m across. It is noted for its erect pinky red flowers carried on tall erect stems above the foliage which later turn a silvery white as autumn progresses.
